Increase Battery Life with Windows Phone 8.1 Update
With the Windows Phone 8.1 update in town, it brings new look and features. But you might notice that, your battery discharges quickly after the update.
One of the reason behind this is apps that blocked to run in background are reset with the new Windows Phone 8.1 update.
Missing “Background Tasks”
Also you would notice that, “Background Tasks” setting is missing from Application settings list.
Finding the Background Task
Well you will not find “Background Tasks” setting anywhere, but with renamed feature available under “Battery Saver”.
As you see in the following screenshot, settings tab shows the battery information. We need Usage tab, tap on usage tab.
As you see, there are two types of apps are listed here. One which can run a background task and which doesn’t have a background task associated. Only apps with Background Tasks attached could be allowed or disallowed.
Turning off a background task in an app is very easy. Select the app and
- Uncheck “Allow this app to run in the background even when Battery Saver is on”
- Switch off the “Allow app to run in the background”
There you go, the selected app will not run in background.
You can experience significant change in battery life after disallowing background apps you change.
