Xamarin – Adding AndroidManifest.xml in Android Application

AndroidManifest.xml is a powerful file in the Android platform that allows you to describe the functionality and requirements of your application to Android. In this post we would see how to add one to the Android project.

As soon as you create your Android application in Visual Studio using Xamarin the project is created with the following structure.

But, where to find the AndroidManifest.xml?

As you see above, the AndroidManifest.xml file does not exist.

Step 1

Go to the Properties of the project and double click. It would open the project properties and the following Tabs would be available.

Step 2

Click on the 2nd Tab (Android Manifest). Click on the Link to add AndroidManifest.xml.

As soon as you click on the link, an xml file named AndroidManifest.xml would be created with default settings.

Also you could see the settings and change it.

AndroidManifest.xml is generated as part of the build process, and the XML found within Properties\AndroidManifest.xml is merged with XML generated based on custom attributes.
